On 13th March 2014 Quikr , Mumbai based company
well known for classifieds platform was founded by Pranay Chulet five years earlier. Pranay Chulet is an IIT-Delhi and IIM Calcutta alumnus.
Quikr has raised $90 million
about Rs 548 crore majority of which was invested by a Swedish based Kinnevik a
private equity fund.
It has direct competition with OLX. OLX is supported by South
African internet and Media giant Naspers.
Quikr has 30 million monthly
users with as many as 12 million listings through its mobile and online platforms.
Quikr is now valued at $250
million i.e. about Rs. 1500 Crore. The firm has since 2008 raised $140 million.
Quikr is bases on the concept
of the American classifieds giant Craigslist.
Quikr has classified of jobs,
automobiles, used goods, services and electronics.
This is huge achievement for Quickr as they had raised huge
sums as Quikr business model is different from e-retailers like Flipkart and
Snapdeal. Both of them raised huge funds from investors last year. Quikr focus
is on classified ads and Flipkart and Snapdeal are selling products i.e. they
have to maintain inventory , Logistics and Warehousing setup.
Quikr has planned to use these funds to enhance its product
offering that works across all desktops and range of mobile devices, mobile
websites, apps without any interruption. They has plans to enhance customer
base from 30 million to 100 million.
Currently Quickr has 140 employees. Pranay Chulet was grown up in Rajashtan and later worked in New York
for 10 years as a consultant and returned back to India in 2008 and started
Quikr in 2009.
Quikr was formerly known as Kijiji.in. Quikr Mauritius Holding Pvt Ltd, the parent company of Quikr
India Pvt. Ltd, has raised $32 million in May 2012 earlier from Warbug Pincus
LIc, Matrix Partners India, Norwest Venture Partners and ebay. At that time
Quikr had only 17 million Customers.
Quikr is not only
targeting Internet customers but also targeting other customers which don’t
have access to internet. Quikr is using missed
call strategy extensively where people just
call them and tell about the ads they want to post on our site Accordingly Quikr
put advertisements for them.
